The couple would through their 13 children and many grandchildren assist so many different spiritual, educational, social, and fundraising aspects at St. Benedict Parish over the last 5 decades beginning with Mr. Kattner's service as one of the parish's permanent deacons. One example of such a parish event, our Oktoberfest, would not have been as long running if it wasn't for the Kattner family. The love and concern that Mary Ann shared with so many here will not be easily forgotten and now can be reflected upon as such a blessing. JANUARY 2018

Joseph T. Babbo, parishioner and generous annual benefactor to both the Elementary and High School Scholarship Funds. So many families over the years have been helped by this quiet and gentle soul who always wanted no recognition for his charitable work. Always he wrote us when sending in his annual contribution that he and his siblings received an outstanding Catholic education and he just wanted to give back so others could enjoy the benefits of a Catholic education. He was very proud of his Italian heritage, service to both his country, to the community through his work for the State of Illinois, not to mention his wonderful family especially his grandchildren who attended our elementary school. A fixture at St. Benedict Church, he was a devout daily Mass communicant here in the parish. Addio buon servo di Dio! Farewell good servant of the Lord.

Peter Kattner Jr. '79

Born, baptized, and raised into the Parish and Schools of St. Benedict, Peter remained an active member of the St. Benedict community for over 56 years. After graduating from St. Benedict High School in 1979, Peter attended Columbia College Chicago, graduating with a BA degree specializing in Theater. As a student of St. Benedict High School, Peter was very active in the theater department, and continued as a stage technician/lighting and set designer in the high school until 2010. Following in his father’s footsteps, Peter also became a licensed electrician. Throughout the past 38 years since his high school graduation, Peter has worked on and off at St. Benedict, both on staff and as a volunteer. As a member of St. Benedict's Holy Name Society, Peter served as President and helped organize events such as Doughnut Sunday, Lunch With Santa, and St. Joseph’s Table. For the past 25 years, Peter had also been the Chairman of St. Benedict’s Oktoberfest and worked on many other Parish activities such as BenFest. As a part of a larger neighborhood community, over the years Peter put in much volunteer work at the local Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club and the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, Peter worked on staff at St. Benedict’s as a Maintenance Engineer from 2006-2014. As many of our mechanicals and systems date back to the time of the building of the high school, Peter was the talented hand behind keeping everything functioning when resources were tight and have been able to still function such as our mid twentieth century public address system. Most recently, Peter worked as the Senior Electrician at North Park University. Our prayers and condolences go out to his wife, Cathy, and his children, Kristin and Peter, as well as his devoted and dear mom, Mary Ann, his siblings, and much loved extended family and friends.
