Here at St. Ben’s, we consider the whole child in their educational journey, academically, mentally, and spiritually. St. Ben’s has a full-time school counselor to meet individual needs of our students. School counselor provides students, teachers, and parents resources and guidance in areas such as academic, career, and an emphasis on social-emotional learning.

What is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. [1]

SEL focuses on 5 areas: Self-Awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making.

SEL research shows students have increase in academic achievement and improved behavior. [2]
